Edgar Kachere

Mr. Kachere holds a Master of Law and Business (MLB) Degree, with Credit, obtained from the Bucerius Law School and WHU Otto Beisheim School of Management in Hamburg, Germany. The Bucerius Law School normally offers the Masters of Law (LLM) program, whereas the WHU Otto Beisheim School of Management offers the Master of Business Administration (MBA). Jointly, these two top schools in Germany and Europe offer the MLB program, which Mr. Kachere attended full time for one year.

At a Masters level, Mr. Kachere specialized in both legal and business areas. In the legal area, he concentrated on Negotiation, Contracts, Company Law, International Trade Law, Admiralty Law, Legal Aspects of Corporate Governance, Commercial Arbitration, and Restructuring and Insolvency Law.

In the business area, he concentrated on Entrepreneurship, Marketing, Strategic Management, International Trade and Investment, General Management, Managerial Leadership, Strategic Sourcing and Logistics, Corporate Governance, Strategic Intellectual Property Management, and Corporate Restructuring Strategy.

Mr. Edgar Kachere also holds a Bachelor of Laws (Honours) (LLB (Hons)), which he obtained from the University of Malawi, Chancellor College, in 2002, where he studied a wide range of areas such as company law, contract, tort law, criminal law, drafting, and conveyancing, civil and criminal procedure, constitutional law, accounts and taxation, just to mention a few.

Mr. Kachere also holds a post-graduate Diploma in Legislative Drafting which he obtained from the International Law Institute in Kampala, Uganda, in 2010. Here, he specialized in the drafting of a wide range of laws, lobbying for legislative proposals into Parliament, just to mention a few. This knowledge and experience enabled him to be to be one of a few legislative drafters in Malawi.

Furthermore, Mr. Kachere possesses numerous Certificates in Corporate Governance, Managerial Leadership, Pensions (just to mention a few) obtained from numerous institutions in Europe and Africa.

Prior to opening the Firm in 2006, Mr. Kachere worked for Messrs Lilly, Wills and Company and Savjani & Company, where he worked in both civil and criminal litigation fields.

From April 2010 to December 2013, Mr. Kachere, whilst running the Firm, worked for the Malawi National Assembly (Parliament) as the Assistant Clerk of Parliament (Legal Services) where he was the Head of the Legal Services Division, and also a member of the Management for Parliament. He was the Chief Legal Advisor for the Speaker of National Assembly, the Parliamentary Service Commission, the Members of Parliament, and the Management and Staff of the National Assembly.

Further, he was the key member of staff in assisting the Members of Parliament in scrutinizing, amending, and drafting laws for this country. He was also instrumental in drafting the Standing Orders (Rules of Procedure) of the Malawi National Assembly which have been adopted for use by the Malawi Parliament.

Prior to joining the Malawi National Assembly, he was engaged, as a Consultant, to review the following pieces of legislation:
(a) Parliamentary Service Act;
(b) National Assembly (Emoluments) Act;
(c) National Assembly (Powers and Privileges) Act; and
(d) Parliamentary Pensions (Enabling Provisions) Act.

He also drafted the code of conduct for Members of the Malawi National Assembly.
From January 2014, Mr. Kachere is now the full time Managing Partner of our Firm.
During his time at the Malawi National Assembly, Mr. Kachere was also a key figure in preparing and drafting the Malawi National Assembly’s 2010 – 2014 Strategic Plan and its Communication Strategy.
